Tau Factor

TAU FACTOR is the one-man hard Electro-EBM project from the mind of Seattle, WA musician Carsten P. Pulling influence from the dark electro greats of the early 90s, but with his own unique, modern twist, Tau Factor's sound has progressed over a well-received release of "Prototype" on ADSR Musicwerks to the new, just completed full-length known as Second Stage Ignition, featuring 11 new tracks and a cover of Mentallo & The Fixer's "Inhumanities," blessed by Gary Dassing himself. Additionally, a powerful remix from Greek EBM band PreEmptive Strike 0.1 is included, and a music video for the song Motionless, produced by Resonance Digital Arts in Seattle.

Now signed to DSBP Records in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the latest CD release of Second Stage Ignition is due to arrive in early March of 2007, with plans in the works to tour later in the year.

Tau Factor's sound ranges from heavy and explosively danceable, to atmospheric and cosmic, but at all times bringing together emotional depth with digital hardness to create something both dark and intense, yet human and relatable.

TF has played numerous live shows over the years, with guest spots opening for heavyweights like GRENDEL, THE CRXSHADOWS, and IMPERATIVE REACTION. Tau Factor has also collaborated in the past with such notable Seattle artists as GLIS and NOXIOUS EMOTION, and has a sound that has moved to the next level in the evolution of this Northwest electro-industrial act.

Reviews

Founded in 1999, Seattle based Tau Factor is a solo project that truly shows promise in this, its second release. Carsten P., the harnessed brainwave behind the programming and recording of Second Stage Ignition, has succeeded in creating an album that has a full sound, something you wouldnt expect to hear in a project with one member. Using an interesting array of synths and vocal processors, Tau Factor has created a great classic sounding EBM album that is infused with modern day trance elements.

Every song on this album is good. That is something I dont get to say often and it is a major relief to be able to. They are all ready to dance to(you know, that silly wave-your-hands-around-while-fighting-off evil-spirits-thing-that-Goth-Club-kids-do) straight out of the cellophane. The lyrics do get a little buried in the cacophony of sound that Carsten creates with his synths, resulting in a less than perfect rating from me, but this album is written for furious movement and it delivers. From the beginning of the synth-line on the opening track, Shadowed Reality, you can feel the frenzied pulse behind this album. The same can be said of Cold Core, and Time is Running Out. Of particular note is the song Transmissions, a slow, industrial song that grinds along to a climactic tempo increase, dropping you solidly into grating vocals on the verses, and trance inducing choruses.

This album is a great listen bobbing in a sea of sound-alike bands that are hoping for a tenth of what Tau Factor delivers. Well done.

A new signing for the NM-based DSBP label, but with TAU FACTOR a relatively known name. Hailing out of Seattle, this one-man project led by Carsten P. could already release a debut CD called Prototype on the ADSR Musicwerks label (NOXIOUS EMOTION) back in 2K2. Several live performances around the Seattle area have happened through the years and TAU FSACTOR could open the shows for some international renowned acts like THE CRUXSHADOWS, GRENDEL or IMPERATIVE REACTION. So live performances have always had an essential point for Carsten, and this will continue, since he prepares for a tour later this year. Thanks to this, but also musically Carsten likes to prove very well his artistic background this isnt the musically output of a lonely PC musician installing some preset loops. The music of TAU FACTOR is a very own mixture out of acts like UV, early INFORMTIK, Germanys ACCESSORY and some early 90ies EBM/Dark Electro flavors. The overpopulated Hellektro-virus got luckily left outside of this production, it is a rather moody Dark Electro album which allows to offer danceable tunes (Dissolution, Cold Core or Overpressure) as well as music to expand your mind (Fade From View). Carsten for sure doesnt use the freshest water to cook his music soup, but otherwise music banned on a real silver circle which avoids the trendy styles is highly appreciated. This CD features 10 new compositions, one cover version of Inhumanities by MENTALLO & THE FIXER (blessed by Gary Dassing), a new version of the older track Convolution and a remix work on the track Motionless provided by the Greece act PREEMPTIVE STRIKE 0.1. Also included is a nice music video on the track Motionless. This is a very detailed arranged, high-quality Dark Electro album, which currently lays like lead in my home entertainment. Authentic old-school Dark Electro music which avoids a pseudo-aggressive attitude another fine addition to the rich roster of the DSBP label.
